As expected, a quiet week in the TG Buck Pool last week. Let’s take this chance to catch our breath and get caught up.
Last Week
We got one entry in the pool last week, Rob Yaeger’s buck from firearms season. There was also a unique situation that potentially could happen that I’ll post more about below. Rob’s is one of 20 eligible bucks that have yet to be scored. If you want to be eligible for the end-of-season winnings you need to have your buck scored by one of the following by January 9, 2022:
Jeff Blohowiak – Green Bay/Northeast Wisconsin
Justin Beck – Wisconsin Rapids/Central Wisconsin
Mike Bruggink – Tomahawk/Northcentral Wisconsin
You have one month to get your buck scored. Please make arrangements to get that done with one of the guys listed above.
Standings Update
- Mike Weinfurter – 154 2/8″
- Shawn Thomas – 143 4/8″
- Mitch Dequaine – 118 1/8″
- Jeff Blohowiak – 110 5/8″
- 20-way tie – TBD
Poll Question
The Week Ahead

It’s been crazy cold the past two days. It could be up to 50 degrees by the middle of next week. We’re expecting snow Thursday through Saturday. Welcome to Wisconsin in December. According to DeerCast this all adds up to weather that’s not conducive to deer movement, ranging from OK to bad with the exception of Wednesday morning, which is likely right now if you’re reading this after it was posted. If you don’t have your buck yet I hope this means you’re in your stand reading this.
This Friday’s Raffle

If you haven’t won a raffle prize yet, don’t fret. Jeff informed me that we have a lot of prizes and only about a month left in the pool. That means there will be five prizes given away this Friday. Here’s the lineup:
A Primos Bloodhunter Flashlight courtesy of Trenton Edge from First Supply.
Also from Trenton at First Supply a Cabela’s gift card.
We have two gift cards to Fleet Farm from Barbi Hidde at Central State Casters.
Last but certainly not least we have a Cabelas gift card, mug, shirt, and keychain from Bonnie Horgan at Hilti.
We’ll announce the winners on the site here Friday. Thanks to Trenton, Barbi, and Bonnie for the great prizes!
Links and Stuff
As mentioned above, we did have a situation that will have a rules change. I’ll explain the story as best I can, and then Jeff can correct me when I inevitably screw it up. One of our participants had already submitted a deer to the pool for gun and bow hunting. A situation came up with this individual as most of us have trail cameras and his just so happened to have a giant monster buck coming in during daylight. The question came up if he ended up getting this buck utilizing the group or “party” hunting rule, would it count in the pool? Group hunting or party hunting, as you are likely aware, is the act of shooting a deer for someone else in your group that hasn’t filled their tag yet. This is perfectly legal during firearm season but not legal during bow season as long as you are in shouting distance of the individual that would be tagging your deer.
Jeff was in a predicament so he asked around to several of the other participants and the majority of those he spoke to believe that this buck should not count as it is not the pool participant’s tag that was used for the buck. While it is not officially in the rules in for the 2021 pool, it will be added in 2022. Please keep that in mind moving forward: You are able to enter multiple bucks in the pool if you took them during firearm or bow season, or if you took them out of state. However, in order for the buck to be eligible it needs to be your tag. Thank you to the individual for bringing up a great question and I’m sure it won’t be the last.
On a different topic, I’m sure many of you are looking ahead to hunting in 2022 already. I’m also sure many of you are subscribed to e-mail notifications from the Wisconsin DNR. If you are not, we received a reminder today that 2022 black bear and spring turkey harvest applications are due by 11:59 PM on December 10. That’s only a few days away for you procrastinating bear and turkey hunters. If you don’t know where to apply, I got you. Here’s your link.
Damn it. It’s 12:02 AM. This Tuesday Update is officially a Wednesday Update. Hopefully nobody noticed. I got sidetracked tonight watching my nephew play basketball and lost track of time. Suddenly I had that, “Shit! I haven’t even started the update” panic and now here I am past midnight. I need to stop typing and sleep now. We’ll keep posting more pics, scores and raffle winners as we get them so keep an eye on the site. If you have tips, ideas, comments, or general thoughts on any of this, please let me know. Good night now!
