This is Charlie. I’m taking over Jeff’s blog because I had to share this news with people who would understand my excitement. My son, Andy, passed Hunter Education tonight. My wife and daughers just shrugged and said, “great, congratulations.” I figured you guys would understand. Like most of you every generation of my family for as far back as I know are hunters. I was not prepared for the amount of pride I’d have in seeing my 12-year-old son ready to join the tradition. I wish my dad was around to see this because he would’ve been thrilled today. Now the kid needs to focus on improving his cribbage game or his great uncles are going to take all of his money.

We’ve got a leader in the clubhouse! Congrats to Tom Williquette for taking down the first buck (that we know of) in the pool this past weekend. Tom is a steamfitter for Local 400 and currently working on the P&G project. We’ll let Tom recap the story in his own words:

“It all started Saturday night the wind was blowing pretty good but in my favor,  I saw a nice 6 that I knew this 8 was running with so I kinda knew he should be coming! And there he was coming through the pines and it was over! 12 yard shot through the boiler! Special thanks to Bob Kaiser for leading the blood trail and hauling it out of the woods!

There you have it. Buck #1 is in the books. It has yet to be officially scored, but you can still see Tom’s name in first place on the leaderboard here. Congrats again, Tom. Great work.

Congrats to Jesse Jeanquart on a successful 2021 bear hunt. This bear dressed out at 221 lbs. and was harvested in Washburn County with a great group of friends.

Congrats to Shawn Thomas on winning the 2020 TG Buck Pool! I finally was able to finally complete the scoring of all the bucks and I apologize for it being so late! Please click on the 2020 results tab to see the final results. Thank you to all for participating and I hope you all get in the 2021 contest! Needless to say, there will be some added rules as this thing grows and lessons are learned. Two rule changes right off the bat will be a time limit to get your buck scored and only one entry per person will make the list. So if you get one buck for archery, and one buck with the gun, the bigger of the two will be entered. Not sure about having a party this year with the virus still running rampant in these parts but will let you know if anything changes. Stay tuned for the 2021 season sign up emails…

Congrats to Shawn Thomas on winning the 2020 TG Buck Pool. The trophy winning buck scored 143 7/8″ Great job, Shawn.

This is a funny development on this years buck contest. After I drew Mike’s name for winning the Vortex range finder, I called the office in Wisconsin Rapids to get Mike’s number so I could call him to tell him about winning the raffle. Apparently, he really didn’t know about being in the contest because some people just signed him up without him really knowing. He was very happy about winning the raffle and now understands why he got the hat, lol! He then proceeded to tell me about some bucks he got this year, one with the bow, and one with the gun. He sent me this pic of the bow buck and I think it will possibly crack the top three. For being a main frame 8, that is saying something! Congrats Mike and welcome to the TG Buck Club! Mike is a pipefitter and is working out the the Wisconsin Rapids location. Stay tuned for the score…
