Layne 9 years old, first bear

As many others know, the very special moment a father gets to see one of his own children take an interest in hunting and in this case bear hunting, it gets to a guy emotionally 🙂. Waking up early on weekend days, the Kwik Trip stop for doughnuts, then running north to put some food out and watch and enjoy the camera action for next couple of days. Layne, he never missed one baiting trip! Opening night we had several bear around us and the adrenaline kicked in when the first two made it in front of us. It was kind of chaotic for a minute as I’m telling him to breathe and just relax after what seemed like forever. Those two had gotten spooked and ran off, a few minutes later, another one came in and at this point I believe his nerves had finally calmed down as I could see the barrel was pretty steady on the stand rest. I told him to take the shot when he was ready, he then he told me to count to 3 and he will shoot…1-2-3 bang! The bear dropped right where it stood. This year bear hunting was special as Layne and my mom (Gma), both had a tag and to have all of us sitting together in two trees side-x-side was a hunt I will never forget.

Great work Layne staying steady and putting a perfect shot on your bear! Also, great work Cody, it’s not easy setting kids up for success and by the looks of it, Layne is gonna be hooked for life! Cody is the HVAC Service Manager out of the Altoona location.
