Congrats to Chris Duban on arrowing his first ever buck! Chris arrowed this in Trempeleau County on 10/29/24. If you don’t know Chris, he is a service plumber out of our Altoona location. His story below:
“It was an hour from dark, I had been in my stand for 20 minutes. This 11 pointer walks towards me, along a fence line, looking tired. He turned at the corner post and I hit him broadside at 25 yards. He jolted a bit, but 20 yards later he is just standing there. I climb down to the ground and put another arrow on. I creep towards him, hoping to get another arrow off. He starts down the trail with me following, trying to decide my next move. I see him bed down and back off, feeling confident he will expire soon.
Back at the house…..”Boys, throw a coat and shoes on, I got a big buck and want to dress him before dark.” My sons James and William head back to the woods with me, and rounding a curve of the trail we see the impressive antlers lying there. We startle him – he gets up and starts walking off. “Boys, stay on him, but don’t push him! I got to go back for my bow.” Twenty minutes later, it’s just about dark. The buck keeps plodding along with our posse following. On the neighbor’s land now, he encounters a younger buck. They eye each other up, but nothing else comes of their meeting.
Now we are entering thick woods and I can barely see him. He stops. I come alongside and put another bolt through him. He runs. I find a bloody arrow, but now he’s gone. We decide to not push him, but come back outside 90 minutes later to find a steady blood trail. We track for 100 yards and it goes cold. My neighbor and I try again the next morning, but can’t find anything leading further. Disappointed I head off to work. Several days later I get a text: a drone operator, searching for someone else’s deer, has found mine. This was a memorable chase. At 41, I’m late to hunting. This is my second deer and first ever buck!”
