Bryce Nicholas Green Lake County Monster

Congrats to Bryce Nicholas on his giant of a buck taken in Green Lake County hunting alongside his dad, Todd Nicholas! Todd is our Piping Division Foreman at our Wrightstown location and couldn’t be more proud of his son! Go back to 2021 and reference the bucks Todd got that year to go along with this story he submitted:

“3 years ago I shot a 3 ½ Y.O. brother to this buck which didn’t make the top three on the TG buck pool. I did end up with a top 3 TG buck pool buck that year though. There were 2 brothers to this deer and the next year we are pretty sure one of the brothers was hit by a car as no one ever reported seeing it but, everyone had heard there was a monster buck hit next to our property. Last gun season, I had a shoulder surgery and could barely lift a rifle during gun season. Well guess what happens when you head into the woods for moral support? I had this buck at 5 ½ years of age standing at 50 yards! I did manage to get my rifle up and squeeze the trigger, but I knew immediately I missed him trying to hold rifle with one arm. That left this bad boy live 6 ½ years of age. We knew he was on our property and my son was itching to head in onto the property to hunt him. Obviously, I wanted to also but my son wanted to shoot the buck and I guess I did too. I told him I would stay out, and he should only head in when we felt the wind was right. On Sunday October 27th I told him he has to be in the woods as conditions were perfect!! He said he had stuff to do and my response was then I am going in! His response back was, I’ll change my plans and hunt because I know you will get him….LOL. Well that early evening he came in but the kid wasn’t ready ( I would imagine on his phone) so he ended up shooting his bow at an odd angle and his string hit his coat causing a bad hit in the dead zone area of the deer (In front of rear thighs and high). We were sick!! I ended up getting a good buddy of mine with a deer dog out and he said the dog acted weird. He said when his dog acts like this the dear has always lived. I thanked him for trying. On Wednesday (3 days later) we had a drone come in and he found the deer alive still on the property with a big hole in it from the arrow going through it. We were relieved to know it was alive, but still could not sleep well cause all we did was think about this deer. So again 2 weeks to the day later, we brought the drone back in to see if the buck had passed anywhere near our property and we could not find a dead buck. The guy assured us that the deer had to be alive. A week goes by and we get him on camera, so we decided to just leave him alone and hold out for gun season. It all worked out at 7:30 am on opening morning. Something in the cattails catches my eye and I bring my binoculars up. Studying the scenario I see movement and verify there is a deer! The deer starts moving into a clearing that I had made and as he does so, I catch a glimpse of antlers and immediately I tell my son, “It’s him…..grab your rifle…..oh crap I forgot to load it….WHAT!…….take my darn gun!!” My son gets into position and asks where is he, I said he is on his way to walk broadside at the far end of the cattail opening (125 Yds). The buck walks in and the kid puts the smack down on the buck. Forever memory made! Gross Score 177 2/8ths using the Rackulator scoring tool!

Jeff, I have a video but I cant seem to send it as it says its too big. I will also bring in the horns within a couple weeks as everyone at the Wrightstown shop knows the story and you cannot appreciate the size of these antlers unless they are in your hands!”

That is quite the story Todd! It surely will be hard to top this buck! Congrats again to Bryce on his success and a memorable 2024 hunting season! Thank you for sharing!
