John Smiley took his first buck with a recurve bow on Saturday, October 3, on his family farm in Van Buren County, Arkansas.
The family had been getting trail camera pictures of this 8-pointer for several weeks, but John never expected the encounter to happen quite like it did. While sitting in his treestand, he caught a glimpse of movement through a large cedar tree in front of him. He stood up as the buck walked into view, and that gave him a shot at just 7 yards.
John made the shot and hit both lungs. The buck ran about 100 yards before falling in a field within sight of the stand.
John says it was a hunt he’ll never forget, especially getting to take his first recurve buck on the family farm.
John is a steamfitter/welder working at Georgia Pacific Project BOGO in Crossett, Arkansas. Congrats, John, on a great buck, and thanks for being a part of the TG Buck Pool! Exciting to see our first Arkansas buck.
