After about ten years away from hunting because of work travel and a lack of access to good land, Scott Nuutinen is back in the woods and already has venison to show for it. His new house near Gwinn, Michigan, borders more than 100,000 acres of state land, so he bought a crossbow and decided to try to put some meat in the freezer.
On the afternoon of October 14, Scott went out to sight in the bow, set up a ground blind, and toss out some corn and apples. The next afternoon, he came back with a chair, his bow, and a range finder just to see how everything fit in the blind and how long a shot he’d set up for himself. It was raining, and he didn’t really plan to hunt, but he decided to sit for a while and look around.
About an hour and a half later, a decent doe walked up to the corn and gave him a perfect broadside shot. Knowing he had two tags to fill, Scott couldn’t resist the thought of fresh venison, and that was that.
With one down, he says he can now settle in and wait for the big one.
Scott is an Account Manager in our Marquette, Michigan, location. Congrats, Scott, on a great comeback hunt, and thanks for sharing the story with the TG Buck Pool!
