Congrats to Dean Paulsen, the father of Mike Paulsen, on bagging this giant buck on opening day. Dean is now retired but was a long time TG employee. I wish he would’ve gotten into the pool this year as this one sure would’ve had a chance for the top 5. Here is what Mike sent me:

After 63 years of hunting my Dad finally got his big buck. He started hunting when he was 11 years old and now is 75. I don’t know who was more excited that he got it him or me. I’ve been watching him all fall on camera, I glad he was finally able to get it done.

Good for you Paulsen family, as this will be a memory you’ll never forget!

Travis was able to put down and doe and fill his freezer this past opening weekend. He was pretty excited about this hunt as his son Jace was able to be with him this year. By the look on Jace’s face, I think we’ll have a future hunter!!!! Congrats

Congrats to Nick Coe for tagging his buck this past weekend! Thanks for sending in and great job on your pictures! Nick is a Project Manager out of the De Pere location. Here is Nick’s story:

“Friday evening I sat in the stand where my wife shot her buck 2 weeks ago.  Around 4:00 I saw a decent buck chase a doe into an area where I have another stand and a cell trail camera.  I chose the wrong stand…. And then a little salt in the wound when I got a picture of him at 4:15 at my other stand.  But I thought maybe they’ll stay in that area till morning… So this morning I sneaked into that other stand and by 7:00 I heard grunting. The doe then appeared and she started working towards me in the brush. The buck was very vocal the whole time grunting, snort wheezing, rubbing trees,  posturing.  The doe was now directly below me in heavy brush. But the buck then broke off the doe and bristled up to fend off another deer in the opposite direction.  While working away from me he gave me a so/so shot at 35 yards that I decided to pass on, knowing I was now in between him and his doe, I didn’t want to chance the tough shot.  Sure enough he turned back to his doe and crossed my shooting lane at 20 yards giving me a perfect shot.  He ran 25 yards and tipped over.  It was a great end to a lot of hours up a tree. And I got this all on GoPro, or so I thought. Turns out my GoPro shut down because of cold battery error after only 6 seconds…   Aside from that it was a great encounter!”

Alan looks like he had a great hunt this past weekend with his son Tanner!! Al was thinking hard about taking this deer but after some thought, he wanted to fill his freezer. You know what they say, “You can’t eat the horns!” Alan aslo went on to say that his son Tanner did an awesome job helping with the track to recover this behemoth! Nice work Tanner, looks like dad is being a great mentor! If you don’t know Alan, he is a Project Executive in the De Pere location. Check out the cool pic he also sent over!

Hunter Tingley was able to bring down a real nice 8 pt this past weekend on a lease he was on with his father! Congrats Hunter! Hunter is a plumbing apprentice for Local 400. Here is his story:

“Buck was shot this morning about 8:00 in Richland county Illinois on a lease me and my dad have. I hunted 7 days straight waiting for a monster buck to come in but after warm weather messing up our hunt it came down to my last day here and I decided not to be so picky anymore so I shot this nice older 8 pointer at the height of the rut here. Shot him about 30 yards out and he didn’t go more than 75 yards.”

Congrats to J.W. on his buck harvest this past weekend in Green Lake County. J.W. is a building trades journeyman currently working in the Wrightstown fab shop. Here is J.W.’s story:

“Left for the cabin unpacked to hunt on our 4acres of land in Green Lake County. Got to my stand around 3:30 pm and by 4:30 the buck was on the ground. The buck came in at 35 yards behind him and went straight to the doe piss he put on a tree. “

I was able to put the tape to Isaac’s buck he recently shot in Trempeleau County. Congrats again on a job well done!

Congrats to Casey Liegeois on tagging this giant Iowa buck this morning on a lease he has been hunting for a couple years. I can’t wait to see what this guy will score! I spoke with Casey after he calmed his nerves down and got the buck out of the field and loaded in his truck I will keep this short as I’m sure Casey will tell the story on this weeks podcast. Here is my best description of what he told me: He said that he started off having a slow afternoon and the next morning on a spot he thought would be a good one but after a couple hours of sitting with nothing happening, he moved to a different place on the property after the morning sit. It didn’t take long to know that he made the right choice because after a few buck grunts from his grunt tube, he had some smaller bucks answering him back. One came running to him which he knew was a good sign. After things calmed down, he heard some deep grunting coming from across the ravine. He couldn’t see anything so he decided to let out some grunts on his grunt tube, after a minute of not seeing anything he gave out one loud snort wheeze. After another minute he saw a buck moving to his left through some thick brush. He brought up his bino’s and noticed that it was a big buck he had on camera a few weeks prior. He gave out one more snort wheeze. After that the buck walked a string right to him. Casey knew it was time to get the bow out and ready for the shot of his life. The buck proceeded to walk thru the brush towards the stand. The buck came within 5 yards of the tree and this is when Casey drilled him and put on a perfect shot. He said it all happened so quick and that the buck fever kicked in so fast afterwards that he actually felt nauseous. LMFAO He had to collect himself before climbing down the tree which was probably a good idea. I can only imagine what that must’ve felt like! Looks like this years TG Buck Pool is turning into a year that we will remember for long time. Check into this weeks podcast as I’m sure Casey will tell the story himself on how it all went down.

Remington Brandt was able to put an arrow in the nice buck this past Friday. Remington is a 1st year steamfitter for Local 400 and is currently working at the Wisconsin Mental Health Institute. here is what he had to say about his hunt:

Shot in Shawano county, November 3rd. He came in at last light on a fast trot but couldn’t get him to stop so I ended up taking him on the move. Ended up only going around 60 yards. While tracking I kicked up a bigger buck on the same trail. I’m guessing there was a hot doe in the area.

After hearing all of these stories, I sure wish they would get rid of this daylight saving time. It’s getting to be hard to get out after work with this time change. If you can get a chance to get out, take it, things are getting super hot right now and you just may never know what could happen! Thanks for sending in Remington and at least you know you still have a shooter for this upcoming gun season! Good luck!

Congrats to Scott McAllister on this buck he arrowed in Adams County this past Tuesday morning! Scott is an Account Manager working out of the Wisoconsin Rapids location. Here is his story:

“Shot this guy on Tuesday morning at 7:05am. Thought it was one of my target bucks when I saw the long tines. Did not have much time to look. Came in real fast , bleated at him to get him to stop, He stopped at 30 yards. Heard him crash 50 yards away. When I found him, I realized he was a new buck I hadn’t seen before. Won’t make top 5, but still a decent buck. Not much for mass, broken right side beam, G2 on left 10 7/8”. Hopefully, I will get another chance at some bigger bucks I have on camera during rifle season.”

Congrats to Jason Waligursky on his Yooper buck taken last friday 11/3! Jason is a sheet metal journeyman working out of the Wrightstown shop. Here is what Jason had to say about his hunt:

“Shot Friday evening 11/3 up in the U.P. other pic is the pack of wolves that really put a damper on our deer population. All summer and fall we had more wolf pics than deer pics. Any deer pics that we did get were all at night.”

Yikes! I’m hoping when you’re walking around in those parts you’re packing some heat as I wouldn’t want come face to face with a pack of wolves! Congrats again on your success, as it’s not easy when competing with super predators.

We have a potential new TG Buck Pool record as Kent was gracious enough to score his buck and he came up with a 156 6/8″ gross score!!! I called Kent about this when he emailed me the score sheet and his story and congratulated him. After some conversation, we both agreed that this buck will be scored by an official scorer for obvious reasons. So while we wait for that to happen, let’s just appreciate what Kent has accomplished on tagging this giant! Like most of us, Kent isn’t in this for awards so congrats again Kent, here is how it all went down straight from Kent:

“We have had 3 years of history with this buck on camera and only the second time we have seen him on the hood. I got back to camp late that day because I had to go home and put hay out for horses and button a few things up so I climbed in a stand I knew had doe activity. Never had a picture of this buck on that side of the land. He came through at 35 yards and I didn’t think I would get a shot. Got drawn back and looked ahead of him and found one opening. He trotted to that spot and stopped on his own. I settled the pin and let the arrow fly. Watch the arrow go through him and he ran about 70 yards and died.”
