Mike Bruggink landed this beautiful 10 pt. on Sunday of opening weekend! Congrats Mike! I don’t know much else except that it has a 16 1/2″ spread and I’m assuming he got this around the Tomahawk area. Mike is and Estimator/Designer working out of the Tomahawk office. Looks like this one will be a contender for at least the top 3 this year. Get some tape on this one Mike!
Congrats to Todd Nicholas on his bow buck! I ran into Todd at the shop the other day and asked how his season has been going. He went on to tell me he got this buck on a bow hunt but it wouldn’t be a contender to win anything. While I agreed with him, I encouraged him to send it in as it definitely deserves to be a part of the pool. As we all know, it surely isn’t easy to land a buck like this or to even see one. Congrats Todd on a successful harvest and a great buck!
Congrats to Josh Andrews on his giant buck taken on the 9-day gun season! Here is Josh’s story:
“I hadn’t seen a lot of rutting activity the last few weekends as I was bow hunting and thought maybe I had just mis-timed it and they were locked down. I saw several smaller bucks chasing does the first couple hours of the morning and all of a sudden I saw a flash and realized a bigger 8 I had seen on camera was chasing a doe across the field I was sitting in. I brought my rifle up and was bringing my face down to my scope when I saw this guy trotting toward them. I wheeled and squeezed one off and he veered 90degrees and ran and my heart just sank. After about 50 yards he just stopped and looked back at me. I had already racked another shell and pumped one into his boiler room. He went about 40 yards and tipped over just inside the wood line. We found the entry for first shot behind the ribs on the left, and the second just behind the shoulder on the right. He dressed out at 190lbs. Without a doubt the largest buck I’ve ever taken and probably ever will.”
That must’ve been an amazing feeling seeing this buck through your scope! Good thing it happened so fast as I’m sure buck fever would’ve set in fast on this one making a sure shot real shaky! This is an amazing buck and Josh also has some additional pics of this giant in velvet. All I can say is, “Wow!” Josh is the Service Sales Account Representative on the 3rd floor at the De Pere office so stop in and shake the hand of a monster buck slayer! I can’t wait to get the official score as this one will surely be a contender. Josh brought this in to get caped for a head mount so as soon as he gets his antlers back, we will get a tape on it. Mike’s score is now official as he sent over his score sheet from 2 different people and they both came up with a score of 139 1/8″. Congrats again Mike on your buck and thank you for setting the bar so high. We have our work cut out for us everybody!
Shawn Thomas strikes again and keeps his streak of big buck killing alive! Shawn got this dandy 10 pt. in Door County during the 9-day gun season. Shawn was nice enough to put a tape this guy it scores 120 5/8″. It looks like he will overtake the 3rd place position as of now so congrats Shawn on a great buck! Shawn is a plumbing superintendent out of Local 400.
Congrats to Kip Zilisch on his buck taken during the 9 day gun season! I don’t have any information on this one but I will update when I do. Kip is an Account Manager working out of the De Pere office. Some of Kip’s projects he’s a part of are the LP Sagola and many biogas projects. Kip know’s his shit!
Congrats to Dave Vaughan on his elusive buck taken yesterday! Here is what Dave had to say:
“He avoided me multiple times. I sat at a different stand tooday and he came in at 100 yards. He went to check a rub and then went to a scrape and I punched him at the scrape!”
Dave is a plumbing foreman from Local 400 and is currently running the Green Bay Reformatory North and South Cell Block renovations.
Congrats to Luke DuBois on his bow buck on public land! Here is Luke’s story:
I bounced around public in 3 different counties the past week after a long slow season in a marsh close to home. I got on a few good ones but as rutting behavior goes a lot of times with a bow…all I could do is sit and watch.
My last morning to hunt before gun season the sun came up and I just wasn’t confident where I was so I called an audible, packed up and headed down the road to a thicket where I could only cover 1 trail.
It was now 7:30 a.m. by the time I set up and by 8:30 a.m. I could hear this 2.5 y.o. coming behind me.
No hesitation this late in the game, 10 yard shot and he ran about 60.
He should have been a 7 point but he busted 3 tines clean off and part of his main beam. Guess he liked to scrap!
Luke is a 3rd year plumbing apprentice for Local 400.
Congrats to Mike Weinfurter on yet another nice archery buck! Mike was able to bring this one down in Buffalo County on his first sit of the season! Not going to lie but that kind of pisses me off and I’m sure I’m not alone as it usually isn’t that easy! Here is Mike’s story:
“First time in the stand this season and it was pretty windy out. When the wind started to die down a bit, I gave out a couple grunts, couple minutes later he popped out running with his head down right towards me. In a matter of 30 seconds he was at 7 yards below my tree and it was game over!”
As you can see, all you need to do is a couple buck grunts and they just come running straight in! All kidding aside, great buck Mike and thanks for sharing the story! Mike also told me he put some tape to it and he came up with 138 1/8″ but is getting it green scored at his taxidermist this weekend so we’ll wait for the official measurement. Looks like a new bar has been set! Mike is a steamfitter from Local 434 and works out of the Wisconsin Rapids location.
Congrats to Scott McAllister on a ‘dandy of a buck’ shot in Adams County this past Sunday! Also, congrats to everyone else because Scott didn’t enter into the TG Buck Pool so this one doesn’t count! Good thing as this one definitely would be a contender for a top 3 finish! So when you see Scott, feel free to give him a little jab about not entering! LOL. I want to thank Scott for sharing his story as I think it will be a reminder for everyone to put safety first before heading out into the woods this upcoming gun season. Scott could’ve had a close call with some of his equipment as he was about to head out using a climbing tree stand. Thankfully with all the training we receive through the trades and from TG Safety, he inspected his gear before heading out to hunt! Here is Scott’s story:
“I shot him on my uncle’s land (only 10 acres) in Adams County. I was not sure I was even hunting this year. I have always hunted with a Lone Wolf tree climber on public land. While I was inspecting my climber prior to hunting season I noticed that one of the traction belts was bad. Unfortunately, Lone wolf sold out. I could not find a belt anywhere. My uncle said why don’t you hunt here. No one has hunted the property in over ten years. I did some scouting and could not believe all the sign I was seeing. This was a natural travel route for deer. I immediately set up cameras. Had 9 different bucks on camera after two weeks. Best year of hunting I’ve had in a long time. Saw deer every single sit. There is a bigger one running around. Waiting for riffle seasons.”

You just never know what you might find with that trusty old stand you’ve used in the past. I think I might give you an award for this story, I will call it the Golden Corn Cob award! Congrats to Rob Yaeger on his nice 8 point taken with his crossbow. This is Rob’s first archery buck! Here is Rob’s story:
Nice 8 pointer Sunday morning. Town of Stevenson NW of Crivitz. One of the 3 on the hit list off my camera. Shot with crossbow at 25 yards, 8:30 am. My kids were along and helped track and field dress. Awesome day! Biggest buck taken at the cabin to date. 1 huge guy still out there! Hopefully my son or I will see him gun season!! Super excited about this one. Not the biggest one I’ve ever shot (used to hunt Waupaca County) But I’ve been working on food plots, mock scrapes, licking sticks all sorts of time to attract deer to the area and to see some quality bucks the last couple years on camera and to now finally get one in 10 years I’m pumped!!!
Wow, needless to say Rob, I’m pumped for you too! I think it goes without saying how gratifying it is to put all the work into hunting to attract deer to your property and to have it pay off! Congrats goes out to Toby Goetz on his bow buck taken on Saturday evening in the rain! Here is what Toby had to say:
“I gave up on waiting for a big one this past weekend. I had a good week off hunting and saw lots of bucks but nothing big got close enough. I shot this one on Saturday evening in the pouring rain and made a bad shot on it. I got ahold of Ben Dickey and he said he would bring his dog out the following morning. His dog found the deer in about 10min of tracking. It was awesome to be able to recovery a deer I would never have found without Ben and his dog.”
I think it’s awesome that Toby didn’t push this deer right away and waited for the dogs to come in to retrieve this buck! Thanks to Ben Dickey for coming out and helping Toby. Congrats again to the both of you! Toby is an account manager working out the Wisconsin Rapids location.
