Congrats to Isaac on this 8 pt. bruiser hunting on public land in Trempealeau County, WI! I know he has put a ton of work into getting something out there and it definitely paid off! He set off with some of his best buddies for a week and he came home with his tag punched! Here is what he had to say:
When we shed hunted last spring I noticed a lot of sign in this spot and figured it would be good during the rut. So I got in early and hung a stand. I had a doe by me in the dark all morning and she knew I was there but never busted me. Around 7:10 a buck and doe came down the ridge into the bottom I was in and I shot him at 20 yards. He ran 30 yards and I watched him fall.

I was with a group of buddies and my brother in on public land. Things were pretty slow the week we were there as the rut wasn’t quite happening and the weather was warm and raining. To make things worse, the pressure from other hunters was even worse on any deer sightings. After seeing lots of scrapes and rubs all over, we chalked it up to the deer being nocturnal yet. My other buddy Mike was having luck on seeing this buck for 3 days in a row so on the last day, he came up with a plan to try and get an arrow in him. Mike set up where he was seeing him every day and he put me in a spot where he thought he was headed. The plan worked out as Mike had him coming in like it had been but he couldn’t get a shot. Mike texted me to try a doe bleat and sure enough, he headed my way. When he came in I realized this wasn’t the type of buck I was after but after the long week of scouting/hiking up mini-mountains, we both decided to fill a tag and not go home empty handed. The buck came in to a watering hole I was sitting on and at 40 yards, he turned broadside and I took the shot. It ended up passing thru both the lungs and stuck in the ground behind him. The buck ran 60 yards and dropped. Our plan worked and we were both excited except for the fact we had to drag him out a mile and a half to the truck. We had a great hunt and made many memories and are looking forward to trying it again next bow season! Below is pic of where the deer was standing and the tree across the pond next to the water is where I was sitting with my saddle and feet on the ground. It was a different feeling being at eye level in the open and being able to bring down a deer.
Congratulations to the both of these guys on bringing back this monster mule deer in Montana this past week. Let’s call this a team effort and you’ll understand what I mean when you read what they sent me, pretty crazy story!

So here is how it all shook out.
After the first day of deer hunting, we had one buck down and had not seen much for deer. We swung by a gas station on the way to the motel. A hunter asked John how we did. He told him one down, two to go. He told John they had seen a 5×5 buck and showed him on Onyx where it was. So we went there in the morning to scout. Sure enough, as the Montana sunrise arrived, there he was 875 yards out with a couple hand fulls of does. We watched as he dropped down toward the river bottom. We came up with our plan. To sneak into the cover in the evening where we last saw him in the and wait for him to come back to the wheat field to feed.
We headed in. About 150 yards from where we needed to be, the does started appearing in the field. We then had to army crawl the remainder of the way. We set up on each side of a sage brush. As we were waiting, I took a pic of us waiting for the ambush. The deer kept creeping out of the cover. We had 5 bucks and about 10 does. They all went out into the field. An hour went by before John pointed out a doe. Then I saw him at about 300 yards. I let John know and we got ready. It wasn’t long before the doe slipped into the field and he came up behind her. Perfectly broadside at 81 yards, now was the time we waited for. I shot. He stared at us. John shot. Still no movement. I fired again as did John. He turned to head back for cover has he stumbled to the ground. We celebrated and wondered what had just happened. We found that we took out his heart, lungs and front shoulders.
Justin is a service tech out of the De Pere office and John is a Project Executive out of the De Pere office. FYI- they are brothers in-law, Justin is married to John’s sister!
Congrats to Chad Wehmeyer on his dandy 9 pt. buck taken on October 6th on his 80 acre property in the Tigerton area! Initially he didn’t feel real great on the shot so he called in the dogs from Muckdogs Deer Rocovery and Training Kennel and they all agreed to track the next morning to be safe. https://www.muckdogsdeerrecovery.com/ Chad said without these guys coming in, he most likely would’ve never found this brute. After a long track and recovery, they found out that the shot was perfect as it hit the lung but with these animals being so tough, you just never know. One other cool thing about the buck is that it weighed 234lbs dressed weight and 284lbs live weight. Chad wished we would have the heaviest deer contest as this would most definitely win that trophy! Maybe we’ll have to add another prize in the future…This doesn’t have a score for the rack yet but we are trying to work that out. Chad might have his taxidermist put the tape to it for now and if needed, we will get an official score at the end of the year. Congrats again Chad on a dandy buck! Chad is a steamfitter for Local 400.
John Buresh mentored his 11 year old son Grant this past weekend on the 2022 youth hunt. Grant has been hunting for his first buck and this ended up being his year when this 8 pointer came in on Saturday evening. Grant made a good shot with his 243 and the buck fell in his tracks. Congrats to the both of you on a great hunt!
Congrats to Rollie Ducat with his beautiful 8 point buck taken somewhere up north! Also in the picture is Rollie’s beautiful wife Harriet. For those of you that don’t know Rollie, he is a retired foreman plumber that worked out the TG Green Bay area for more than 40 years and many of us have had the pleasure to have worked for him! I’m thinking that next year he is a must to have in our TG Buck Pool to show us young bucks how it’s done! Congrats again Rollie and make sure to get that surgery scheduled to have that horseshoe removed out of you know what!!
Congrats to Isaac on his hang and hunt doe kill on public land last Friday afternoon! Pretty cool to see some guys walking into some new land and hanging a stand and able to actually get something. Way to go Isaac on your doe and helping thin the herd on the eastern part of the state in Brown County!
Greg was able to land this giant 6×6 elk on a trip to Idaho with his buddies. His group was able to go 4 out of 5 which is unbelievable! Greg also said that this brute is pushing 300” which is a giant in my books! Maybe we can get Greg on our TG Podcast to tell us the story himself! Congrats!!

Congrats to Shawn Thomas on winning the 2020 TG Buck Pool! I finally was able to finally complete the scoring of all the bucks and I apologize for it being so late! Needless to say, there will be some added rules as this thing grows and lessons are learned. Two rule changes right off the bat will be a time limit to get your buck scored and only one entry per person will make the list. So if you get one buck for archery, and one buck with the gun, the bigger of the two will be entered. This is a funny development on this years buck contest. After I drew Mike’s name for winning the Vortex range finder, I called the office in Wisconsin Rapids to get Mike’s number so I could call him to tell him about winning the raffle. Apparently, he really didn’t know about being in the contest because some people just signed him up without him really knowing. He was very happy about winning the raffle and now understands why he got the hat, lol! He then proceeded to tell me about some bucks he got this year, one with the bow, and one with the gun. He sent me this pic of the bow buck and I think it will possibly crack the top three. For being a main frame 8, that is saying something! Congrats Mike and welcome to the TG Buck Club!
